Adding extra gradebook items such as participation
To Create a grade item and Manually enter grades from a non-Moodle-related activity.1. Navigate to the gradebook and click on categories and items
2. Click add grade item located at the bottom of the page.
There is a difference between categories and grade items. Grade items are columns that are created to have a numeric entry associated with them. For example if you gave a paper quiz in class and wanted to record the grades for this quiz by manually inputting them. Grade categories can house numerous grade items. An example of how these are used can be related to quizzes in your course. If you have 4 quizzes (all 4 quizzes are worth 40% of the course total), you can put the quizzes(which are grade items) into the category. Then using the power of Moodle's gradebook you can set a weighting on the category, to calculate the total for 40% of your course
3. Enter the grade item name and maximum grade. If you cannot see "maximum grade" make sure you click on "show advanced".
