Steps to "upgrade" your OneNote for Windows to Microsoft 365
To upgrade to OneNote for Microsoft 365, first, ensure your existing notebooks are fully synced, then download and install the new OneNote application from the Microsoft Store or as part of your Microsoft 365 installation, and finally, uninstall the old OneNote for Windows 10 application. The new OneNote app for Windows will automatically have access to your notes from the cloud, so you just need to sign in to your account.

Important notes
- Sign in to your Microsoft 365 account:
- Migrate your notebooks to the cloud:
- Once signed in, go to File > Info.
- Click Settings next to the local notebook you want to move.
- Select Share or Move, and choose your Microsoft 365 OneDrive account as the new location.
- You can then give the notebook a new name and click Move.
- Start using the new OneNote app:
- The OneNote app is included as part of your Microsoft 365 subscription and should be installed alongside other apps like Word and Excel.
- You can now access and work with your notebooks that have been moved to the cloud through this new OneNote application.
Important notes
- OneNote 2016 is compatible with the OneNote 2010-2016 format, and you do not need to convert files between these versions.
- If your OneNote 2016 files are stored locally, the "upgrade" involves moving them to a cloud location like OneDrive to make them accessible from other devices via your Microsoft 365 subscription.
