Canvas Profile Pictures

Update Your Profile Picture in Canvas

Log in to Canvas:  alliant.instructure.com
  1. Click on the "Account" icon in the upper left.
  2. Select "Profile"
  3. Select "Edit Profile Picture"

From here you can either upload a picture, take a picture with your webcam or use a gravatar. 

File and Processing Errors

If you find you cannot upload a photo to Canvas it is likely one of 3 reasons.  Sometime Canvas will display the reason you cannot complete the process.  Sometimes it does not.

Some things to try:

Delete Old Profile Pictures: If changing your profile picture, go to your files and delete the existing picture in the “profile pictures” folder first.

Check File Size: Reduce the file size of the photo you are trying to upload, as smaller files are less likely to fail.

Check Storage Quota: Navigate to Account > Files and check if you have exceeded your allowed limit (often 50MB), which prevents new uploads. Pay special attention to the 'Conversation Attachments' and 'unfiled' folders.   You'll need to delete some previously stored files (or relocate those files elsewhere), then upload your documents.
