Canvas Emails and Messaging
The Canvas INBOX is an internal messaging system. Though users can be notified of messages by email, this is not NOT AN EMAIL SYSTEM.
When using the Canvas INBOX, you are essentially creating a message internal to Canvas. All users are able to adjust notification preferences to receive messages using external channels such as email. Some may want to be notified immediately, some prefer a weekly rollup and some may prefer to not be emailed at all. If students have not set up communications from Canvas or they have blocked email messaging from the system they will not receive your messages.
You are able to message students using the inbox by following these instructions: Canvas Faculty Guide for Using the INBOX feature
If you wish to communicate to students exclusively by email, we suggest you create an Outlook contact group using your course roster to populate the group members. A contact group acts as a personal distribution list for Outlook.
