Alliant’s SharePoint sites are provided with intended and appropriate permissions already built in. If you have documents that need to be shared by multiple Alliant employees but there is not yet a corresponding SharePoint location, please submit a Technology Support Request
Protect a document with a password - Microsoft 365 – Excel, PowerPoint, Word
Passwords are case-sensitive and can be a maximum of 15 characters long.
If you lose or forget your password, Excel, PowerPoint, Word will not be able to recover it for you. Be sure to keep a copy of the password in a safe place or create a strong password that you will remember.
Encrypt with Microsoft 365 Message Encryption
In an email message, choose Options, select Encrypt and pick the encryption that has the restrictions you want to enforce, such as Encrypt-Only or Do Not Forward.

- Go to File > Info > Protect Document > Encrypt with Password.
- Type a password, then type it again to confirm it.
- Save the file to make sure the password takes effect.

Share a document via OneDrive
- Right mouse-click on the file to be shared
- Select Share
- Select the arrow to the right of the default option to change who the document will be shared with
- Select the option Specific people
- Select other options as appropriate; Allow editing, Open in review mode only, Block download
- Select Apply
- Enter the name(s) or email address(es)
- As you type, a picklist of accounts from the Alliant Address Book will populate
- Type a message for the recipient and the select Send
- This will email your message to those you selected to share the file with.
